At a time of radical transformation of Asian People's Alliance for Combating HIV & AIDS (APACHA) Mr. Mohammad Kamal Hossain has taken charge as the Coordinator APACHA International Secretariat. With him Mr. Hossain brings to APACHA newer thoughts and plans to move ahead the APACHA movement and establish it as the strongest and largest mass based alliance in the Asian region.

Mr. Mohammad Kamal Hossain was born in 1974 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He studied in University of Dhaka and got the Masters in Geography and Environment securing 1st class 1st position. His master's thesis was on Women and Child trafficking in Bangladesh which was the first ever in such kind of research at university level. He was awarded Monbusho Scholarship by the government of Japan where he got the opportunities to study contemporary Economics.

He started his career with Bangladesh National Women Lawyers' Association in 1997 and then moved to Communica, a professional communication and capacity building institution in Bangladesh where he served as researcher and communication and capacity building personnel.

In 2001 He moved to Action Aid Bangladesh and till today served the organization in different capacity. During his career, he closely worked with the marginalized community, policy makers and Parliamentarians. He is trained in HIV and AIDS project management and capacity building.

He has the capacity to extend support in all spheres of development stakeholders. As National Project coordinator for STAR, he provided support to India, Nepal, Pakistan China, and Vietnam CPs of Action Aid.

He also attended and presented papers in a numbers of international conferences on HIV and AIDS in Asia and Africa. Mr. Kamal also have the vast experience in working with the issues like Human trafficking, Migration and sex Workers' rights.

He is one of the key person developed the STAR (Societies Tackling AIDS through Rights) approach in combating HIV and AIDS through Social Mobilization. He is also the facilitator for Stepping Stones training.

He is involved with APACHA since its inception in 2004. He was also the part of APACHA revitalization process. He served as National Convener for APACHA Bangladesh Chapter. He believes in the rights of poor people thus engaged in many peoples' oriented movement from his student life. He is the International Secretary for Bangladesh Youth Union, one of the largest youth organizations in Bangladesh.

APACHA welcomes Mr. Mohammad Kamal Hossain and congratulates him in his appointment as the coordinator. APACHA believes that it will touch the new heights during the tenure of Mr. Hossain. Together we will achieve our goal of establishing the rights of HIV infected, affected and vulnerable people as well as the rights of poorest of the poor people around the world.
